Last year we stayed at the Melasti with our two boys and my sister and her children. The boys had fun going to surf school (my youngest thought the best one was at Kuta run out of Hard Rock Cafe) and went there nearly every other day. We have been several times to Bali but my sister was on her first trip. Her daughter had her hair braided at the spa in the Melasti as well as nails etc done. We both had facials and massages.
We went on a cycling tour (all downhill) which started at Mt Batur, all day with late lunch provided. White water rafting is another for the boys.
The first week we hired a driver and a mini van to take us up the mountains to see silver, batik, stone carvers, art etc. that was an all day thing as well.
You can hire jet skis - all this is so reasonable compared to here.
I didn't get my laundry done via the Melasti as it came back not as clean as it had done previously, there is a laundry directly opposite the main gates of the Melasti which was fine. The boys bought about 100 dvds across the road from the Melasti just along abit to the left about a block along, and we found them honest and we actually hired our DVD player thru them as reception wanted twice as much for hiring.
We ate along the beachfront - if you go out to the beach road and turn right up past the Niksoma and Jayakarta there are a few little restaurants Bennys, Trekor, Zanzibar all reasonable for easy meals. The Bamboo hut was great - out the front entrance turn right and cross the road and walk along the dog leg and there it is. Cold Bintang and cheap easy meals again - Made the bartender was great and remembered that we'd been again and again.
We bought water across the road from the main entrance of the Melasti at a little convenience store - water, coke, canned drinks, snacks etc and put all in the fridge.
We also at at Poco Loco just down the road from the Jayakarta - some many restaurant and all kid friendly - my 15yo thought it was great that he could order his father's beer!! that sort of friendliness was everywhere. We are back there in September this year for two weeks but we are at the Niksoma this time. Hope you have loads of fun - shop till you drop!
