We referred to him as "Cranky Chef" when I took my parents over a couple of years ago. We made a point of giving him a big smile and saying good morning etc every day for a couple of weeks. It took the whole trip but we finally got a grin out of him and some best wishes for our trip home on our last day. He wasn't there much when I went back 6 months later. Hoping he's still there when I go back again in August... he might not be super friendly (I actually think he's more shy than unfriendly) but he cooks the best eggs out of the lot of them, lol.
