I always only have my Gold Card Insurance. Mine is with Westpac and when I read the brochure I am covered the same as any other policy, for death, medical, luggage, full cancellation, evacuation etc.
I went to Europe with 2 small kids in 2003 and had medical bills from Ireland and lost my baby sling on the Airplane (I got up and left it behind).
I got home, they asked for the receipts for the medical bill which I gave, but I could not provide a receipt for the baby sling as it was a present. They just asked me to obtain a quote to replace which I did and no problem claim was paid out within a couple of weeks (as per most insurance companies, they would not want to do it too quick :-)
We are with Westpac Bank, and I know each bank uses different companies for the insurance policy, so I guess claims/policies are going to be different with each of these companies.
I have and will only ever use my gold card insurance - why pay a $200 premium for 4 of us to go to Bali for 14 days, when I am covered for the same thing (luggage, accident, medical, evacuation, cancellation) FREE on my credit card. All claims have a $200 excess, but rather risk having to pay an excess than automatically paying $200 + for a premium for 14 days EVERY time I travel.
