I have had good & so-so meals at places..depends who is cooking on the night & also sometimes whether I really feel like eating at all.

I often eat in restaurants where there is little or no clientele as I dislike noisy, crowded, packed in, elbow to elbow places.
Found the food to be fine and the ambience just great.

I only check out the washroom if I need to go.
By that stage I really don't care what their loo is like as long as they have one.
Not fussed on lack of soap & towels as I carry anti bac wet ones as backup.
Don't carry a black pen to scribble on their mirrors or anywhere else.
(Sorry but I class that, as in the ugly tourist/wtf? category)

If I don't finish a meal the staff is always very concerned as to why & if it was suitable etc. Sometimes I politely say it was perhaps not that nice..usually I just say sorry I'm not that hungry.
Small serves suit me as I waste large serves & just don't have a big appetite.
Either way I pay the bill.

If a place is really woeful then I just don't go there again.

But then again...I don't class dining/dining out as a high priority or on my 'must do' list in Bali while on holiday but can understand that others do.

Best meal I had in Bali was in a warung in Legian St about 3am with good company, fishtanks behind me, ordinary placcy tables & chairs, sate that had been sitting in the window awhile & a squat toilet way down the back that ...yeah well...
