Bad start flew Garuda from Melbourne via Adelaide. Sat in transit lounge for 5 hours for them to tell us that the plane had mechanical problems. Stayed in Adelaide overnight. Yep lots of fun on a Tuesday night. Got up at 3:30am Wednesday and on the plane by 4:30am. Arrived in Bali at 9am. Tip - ask for seats at the front of the plane so you can be first through Visa etc. Then grabbed a taxi and we were at our hotel in 1/2 an hour from getting off the plane. Taxi 25,000rp.
Stayed at Barong, usually stay at Bounty but full. Barong ok for the party goers. Room was big (tripple share) bathroom terrible. Watch out for people spewing in the pool, plastic floaters (ie condoms) and BB guns. People do arrive late home or should i say early morning from partying so beware.
Went to Waterborn Park. Tip walk up from Kuta Square and there will be people handing out brouchures for the park with discounted entry. Do grab them but make sure you get a few cause some are 10%, 15% or 20% off. The guy giving it to you will tell you not to grab any others off anyone else just tell them if i get a better % off you'll take it. The park was great been three times now. Watch for the concrete cause it is really slippery and make sure you do every ride at least once it's not as scary as they look. Don't eat there get a passout and walk down the road to get better food. 2nd day passes are US$5 which are to be used within 7 days if you loved it.
Go karting was great. Not the most safest go karting place I've been too but for 60,000rp for 10-15 minutes and a couple of Bintangs under the belt it was great fun.
Time zone on Legian st was cheap and with some of the latest games. Daytona was about 2000-3000rp for example. You can buy 10,000rp, 20,000rp or 50,000rp cards.
Learnt to surf on Kuta beach was good. Got up after 5 goes never surfed before. It cost us 100,000rp which included our own personnal instructor and board hire and we'll out there for about 2 and 1/2 hours. Beach is very dirty though. Heaps of plastic bags and the water tastes disgusting.
Went banana boat riding, jet skiing and parasailing for 250,000rp. Worth a go if haven't been before but parasailing your up there for about a minute. Banana boat is a hoot make sure you flip it over. Jet skiing is fun but now you have to get an instructor to sit behind you because of recent events over the last year. We had a competition to see how many times we can get them off the back. My mate got his instructor off 4 times. They don't care how crazy you go as long as you don't go near another jet ski or boat.
Went cock fighting. But a rooster for 100,000 it won within 5 seconds and the guy we bought it off gave us the same amount back for it cause it was such a good fighter. Not a place to go for the queezy but worth a look if you want to experience part of there culture.
Friends went and trained at Mirra Boxing. Cost them 20,000rp each and got personal instructor each. They told them Kostya Tzu (spelling??) trained there for one week and when they were there they had 3 Belguim fighters training. There is another gym for weight lifting. It's called Hammerhead it's behind La Porchetta in Legian st. Fairly good set up.
Did a tour to Ubud and into Denpasar then down to Dreamland beach (a must see). Bodyboarded down there for a while but surf wasn't that big the day we were there.
Hired motorbike. Knowing we didn't bring a license we thought what the heck and of course we got pulled over and paid the bribe i mean fine 40,000rp. He wasn't going to accept it he wanted 150,000rp i said no can't afford then they pulled over the next victims i mean tourists and he happily accepted the 40,000 for cigarettes i mean the local community. Even asked for directions and he was happy to advise.
