when this tax, which in reality is what it is,was first introduced you had to pay in $us which of course costs you money in commission to buy but since then you have been allowed to pay in $aus and this is what I have done on the last few trips.I have always had the intention to check exactly what change I received and check the $aus equivelant but it always just gets put in the pocket and never checked properly, however I do know that I normally give them $aus40 and get in excess of rp20,000 in change which makes it approx the same cost as buying $us without the hassles of doing so and it has never slowed down the process of getting the visa receipt.
