a couple of years ago from one bedroom apt. in the Residence section to a junior suite in the hotel. The apartments aren't very nice and the suite was heaps better. Was on the first floor (actually their 2nd floor as they call the ground floor the first) with a small balcony overlooking the round pool. It cost us about $40 a day to upgrade but was worth it not to have to walk so far from the apts. to the pool, beach, restaurants etc. Doubt if you would get a free upgrade and also depends on whether you are staying at Jayakarta Hotel and/or Residence or Club Bali Suites. They are both at the same location but Club Bali is a bit more expensive as they are time share or privately owned apts. Don't think you can upgrade from Club Bali to somewhere in hotel. Travel agent should be able to help.
