Because the penalty for drugs is so severe in Indonesia, you won't find drugs easy to find. You will always get the guys on the streets trying to sell you some but these guys are usually cops who use the old entrapment thing to catch you. (Yes they do this in Australia also) The methamphetamine that is sold around the bars and clubs is not what you think it is. It can be a mixture of anything except what you think it is. If the sellers are caught a conviction is unlikely because the substance they have sold you is not an illicit drug.
A designer drug is one which has certain chemicals in it to be considered to be illicit. Drop one of the drugs in the formula and you don't have an illicit drug anymore. It has been re designed. That why it is called a designer drug.
It's interesting that some of us will go to great lengths to prevent Bali belly and worrying about declaring the right amount of alcohol when returning to Australia but will take drug of unknown origin, sold to you by a stranger in a sleazy bar at 2 in the morning.
The new police chief, I Made Pastika is a man of great wisdom and honesty. He is a religious man who has vowed to stamp out corruption in Bali. The recent incident involving the arrest of a man involved in the Jet Ski accident death, bought howls of protest by Australians accusing the legal system in Bali of being over zealous and heavy handed. The fact is, if that accident had happened in Australia and alcohol was an issue, the rider of the Jet Ski could have been charged and waited 13 months for a trail. In Bali, the police chief intervened and released the Jet Ski rider on compassionate grounds, and also because the prosecution could not prove any guilt by the other rider of the Jet Ski. If Ms Corby was released without a trial all the "wink wink, nudge nudge" and allegations of corruption and pay offs would surface. It would be improper to discus Mr Corby's guilt or innocents on a forum like this but with this new police chief, she will get a fair trial.
The skipper of the boat full of guns in Bali was held in custody, to prevent him from absconding on bail. This would happen in Australia to if the accused was a flight risk.
