I mean its just human nature. Shapelle Corby is good print because she is young, good-looking etc. and everyone would like to believe she is innocent. Just like attractive people are treated more leniently by jurys and judges.
Also many many Australians are locked up in Asia convicted of drug offences but the vast majority are men in their 20's, 30's and 40's.
Thats why there is such interest in her. Becuase she is female and in prison in Asia, a situation no-one would wish to be in but we imagine that men can handle this better than women. Again one of the sympathy things that makes it a good story. And, lets face it most Aussies would like to believe that she is telling the truth and the Indonesian Customs guy is lying.
