"Hooking up" in Australia basically means getting together with someone. Though the term "hook me up" does mean much the same thing (though it might not necessarily mean drugs... you can hook someone up with a slice of cheesecake).

There was certainly no disrespect in you providing a link to the article. It just frustrates me that 60 Minutes have such a wealth of resources and access, yet still only manage to cobble together such basic information, and then hype it as though the viewer is privvy to inside information and can therefore judge someone conclusively.

And yes, Indonesia is a bad place to do drugs. Not just because of the penalties for being caught, but because of the lack of quality of what they are taking. Ecstacy might just be aspirin mixed with flyspray. And it's not as though you should ever be bored while you're on holiday -- it's not as though you need anything extra to relax or escape reality.
