You can hire a bike in your lane right outside your hotel, ask for Agus or Agung (I think Agung also is security at troppozone). They will take you to the police station in Denpasar to get your licence. I am guessing you have to be 17, that is the legal (ha ha) age to ride a bike in Bali. You don't have to sit a test there, just fill out a form, show them your passport, they take a fingerprint and a photo of you and then you pay the money. The tourist licence is valid for one month and the cost is 120,000 rp. The guys will probably tell you its a bit more cos they want a tip to take you to the police station, fair enough!! We paid 30,000 rp for an automatic bike (Yamaha Nouvo) but we hired it for 5 weeks. Geared bikes are cheaper. 25,000rp a day is a fair price to pay for a geared bike. It's a great way to see Bali and get around, but the traffic is horrific, so don't be stupid.
