Our 1st trip was back in 1981 - stayed at Sanur Beach Hotel - new building was going up next door. It cost Rp3,000 to Kuta. We hired a motorbike and headed towards the airport and kept going and going. Passed thru some incredibley isolated villages - I had a bikini top on and shorts and ended up very sunburnt. Well we got hopelessly lost and stopped to ask directions back to Kuta - I was spat on and they threw stones at us - we got the hell out of there (wherever that was!). We finally found our way back about 3 hours later very relieved. We think that we ended up somewhere around Uluwatu but who knows!!
Another memory is buying chunky silver chain on the beach at Sanur - "yes real silver". My husband later rubbed it on stone - not silver - oh well.
Rememeber going to Number One & Peanuts and dancing our heads off.
Also going to Jani's Restaurant where Jimmy the Magician worked behind the bar and did some amazing tricks. And all the lovely birds sitting on perches.
