Taking a taksi from Kuta to Sanur at midnight.
A very friendly Balinese gentalman with his daughter in the front seat of an old Zephyr. We asked why the car only had one park light and no other lights at all!! His reply was; because his boss was tight fisted and that he had to work many hours to make a living and didn't have much time for his family and that was why his daughter was with him. As they drove off, we then found out that both of us couples had paid him and both given a handson tip as I got out of one side of the car and my friend out of the other side and didn't relise that the other had paid. Yes there were old Zephur and holdens cars as taksi's back in 1983.

My wife and I were leaving Kuta again on another night back to Sanur
in 1983, my first trip to Bali and as we asked for a Bemo, two groups of locals starting fighting over, who was going to take us. There wasn't any other westerners around and we were a little bemused. One driver finally told us to get in the back and off he went,
only to pull up further up the road and six other locals all clambered in the back with us, wow!!! are we going to be mugged?
And then they took the old dark back road instead of the new by-pass Road. worry worry worry!! We arrived at our Hotel with my heart racing for nothing.

Sanur beach, my first full day in Bali. I told myself I wasn'y going to buy anything on this day untill I got my bearing and understood the Rp. This very quietly spoken Balinese guy selling his wares asked if I would just like to look!!! Well of course I did.
He noticed there was one item I took an interest in and he asked if I wanted to buy it. I said I didn't have any money and maybe tommorow.
His reply was; you take the item now and tommorow you can pay me!!!!
which happened and after that I saw the item everywhere we went, and quess what!! arr yes! it was a quarter of the price.

First time experiences, arn't they just great?
