Catching a late afternoon bus from Gilimanuk to Lovina some years back when I was sitting behind two female Brit back-packers. The bus was the local 'going to market" type with all sorts of livestock as well as people on board.

The Brit girls chose to seat themselves under a bundle of live chooks in the luggage rack, so ever the gentleman, I drew their attention to it. As the bus was pretty full and no other seats being available, they chose to huddle as far away from the chooks as possible.

All was well until the bus was boarded by a local male who took the opportunity to squeeze in alongside a couple of bule ceweks for amusement or frottage. The girls bravely suffered this until I pointed out that the male seated along side of them was a bit "stumpy" on the hands indicating that he was most likely a leper.

The girls shrieked and bolted to the front of the bus thus allowing the local to occupy the now vacant seat.

The funny thing was that no other locals attempted to share the seat with him.

I never worked it out if it was the chooks above or leprosy that ensured he, at least, enjoyed a comfortable ride.

( I did catch him trying to pick his nose....but that is another story.)
