I do it, well maybe not the lettuce etc but i have taken things similar to this.

I usually pack the knife wrap it in cardboard and pop it in your suitcase as it won't be allowed on the plane in your back pack. With the salami i freeze it and made sure it was the last thing i got before running out the door and popped it in a cooler bag that also fits snug in my backpack, the cooler bag has come in handy in bali many times and has become our permanent travel companion;-)

I have taken salami knobs and twiggy sticks, cheeses and dips(creamy and salsa) I tell you what pack some dorito's as they are yummy snack companions. (before people flame they are just not the same flavour in Bali)

I also take the stick water flavoured icey sticks they make great ice packs to keep things in the cooler bag chilled and can be drunk when thawed out also we habd them out to the locals and they LOVE them as do we on hot weather. Don't freeze them until you get there as your frozen salami stick will keep all chilled for the flight;-)

Any more questions please feel free to email me;-)
