I have never stayed at the Hard Rock but have been there to visit. It leaves me stone cold. It is on the beach Rd just around from Kuta Sq but you may as well be staying at the american embassy, it is overrun with security and you feel like you are entering a compound, unless you walk in off a side gate at the pool entrance)if u can still do that).
For a hotel "on the beach" none of the rooms have a view of the beach and the balconies are a glorified ledge.
having said all that, my friend who has 2 girls aged 13 and 16 absolutely loves it and swears by it and will choose to stay there every time. We laugh, because I just don't get it at all!
The Dynasty may be an option, but I dam not a fan of the Tuban end of town.
For me, when I am with my kids I would pick an absolute beach front hotel from LBH and then northwards.
