With paintings, bepends how big they are, some you can just get the canvas and they can roll them to bring back. If you have it framed make sure it is packed well and labelled fragile. We were lucky enough that we took ours as hand luggage and the hostess stored it safely on the plane for us (was a portrait of our 3 kids).
Regarding money, I always travel with cash these days. There are many places to change your money, I generally stick to the Kodak shops or the bank next to the bemo corner. Take large denomination notes as the exchange is better than small denomination notes. Keep your cash in the hotel safety deposit.
Internet is available all over. It cost usually 200rph per minute. You want have trouble finding someplace, depending where you are staying I could give you some locations. We take an old GSM phone with us and buy a bali phone card, Text messaging cost about A$0.12. We paid 50,000rph for the phone card and it had 20,000rph of credit. It is worth the fought if you want to keep in contact. When messaging back to Aust put 61 and leave of the 0 before the mobile number and your messages will get through.
Stay away from bana leaf photo albums, as lovely as they are you can't bring them back (unless you want the cover ripped off) If buying wood items check them out for borers, look for holes and give them a bang, if anything drops out of them, don't buy.
Hope this helps
