I know hindsight is a great thing,and I dont know which state you are from, but you could have saved yourself time and money by using
someone such as Harry Kellerman to arrange your shipping to OZ.
He brings in product for private individuals all the time to Sydney and Brisbane and Melbourne.
His costs work out to about $350 a cubic metre, I think,including duty and GST.
YOur costs were so much because you are importing as an individual and you are charged the same regardless on the number of cubic metres.
Water Hycianth and banana leaf has to be specially fumigated and that incurs an extra cost.I tell my customers to buy seagrass or rattan and save themselves the hassle.
I also suspect that you were overcharged for the cubic meterage.
It makes me cross because there are unscupulious people not being honest with clients and leaving them to pick up the bill at this end.
