First of all, one thank you per thread would suffice, and by saying "Thanks guys, I now have the info I need", it might actually save bandwidth in the long run because the thread can be seen to have served its purpose, and posters can move on with a smile on their face and a song in their heart.
Second, thanking someone in advance is slightly rude in my opinion. It's like a passive aggressive demand. Like signs that say "Thank you for not yadda yadda". I always think, "Screw you... I want to yadda yadda". And there are signs on trams and trains in melbourne that have a picture of a guy who looks nice and relaxed with his feet up on the seat, ciggie in one hand, beer in the other... and they have the temerity to say "In the interests of passenger comfort..." none of that behaviour is allowed.
And another thing... hehe... nah, forget it... that's enough.
