You can drive (we have) but a driver is pretty cheap and more relaxing. You won't need a driver every day. For example Waterbom is across the road and that's a full days entertainment. Most drivers charge 300.000 for a full day.
Someone below said book tours before hand -DON'T. You can get White Water Rafting for 250.000 each (maybe cheaper for children). We paid 225.000 each (4 people). You can bargain more if you have mopre people. There are stands everywhere trying to sell. If you book here it is $US60 or thereabouts. If you do the WHite Water rafting you will not need a driver that day either as it comes with transport and lunch.
