you should take the chance Ting.I think you would be pleasantly surprised what you can get.By taking the chance at Ubud we discovered our little gem,the Ubud Village.Ever heard the saying you can't make lemonade without lemons ? Blimey did we sure discovered what I'd losely term some interesting lemons that day before we found the Ubud Village <LOL> We had serious concerns about our abilities to climb like mountain goats in pitch black to try & get back to our room at some of the places we looked at.
I always try & have a bit of a back up plan though & always do a fair bit of homework before we leave.Listening to fellow forumites ideas is of great help.These days we usually book our first few days or 1st week at a lead in property & let our favourite hotels know the approximate date we will be arriving after we leave our 1st hotel.We often find we get delayed by a day or so when we discover somewhere on the way to our next destination.I find that if you have a general idea what you are doing & where you want to go helps give some sense of security.What I used to do was have a few places in mind that I wanted to check out when we got to a place & make up your mind after you have seen them.So we are not quite as adventurous as we may have sounded.
Having the mobile to inform your next chosen hotel helps if you get delayed.These days we know what our favourites are just love staying at them & will continue to do so.
Thanks for the comments re our son.He's just loves going to Bali like the rest of us.He's been lurking on the forum for a long time & would often help me answer other parents with kids or teenagers questions.He just decided on his own to register & didn't even tell me until he'd done it !
