Had a similar attitude, nothing can be spicy enough to shock me, macho, macho.
Well, after I made the experience, THAT there was something to shock me ( to the amusement of some locals), I got a bit more carefully during the years ;-)
I like spicy food, I got an impression what can be called SPICY in Thailand, sometimes this experience have nailed me onto the toilet of my bungalow the next day, the WHOLE day.
Well; I never was in India, a former workmate of mine travelled whole India by train and told marvellous stories about this trip, I have been in Sri Lanka and I was with some locals eating in so-called jungle-restaurants, I loved the curries on Sri Lanka and I'm not talking about tourist curries.
OK, what can I say about Asian food here in Germany ?
On every corner you will find a Chinese restaurant, forget them all – brrrrrr, just terrible.
You will find all kind of Asian food everywhere, many Thai restaurants, because its getting trendy here in Europe.
Well, the best Thai food I have found, was not a fancy restaurant, it was a small stall on the parking area of a supermarket near Stuttgart, ruled by Vietnams, but the best Thai food I've ever had in Europe !
Had a experience wit some pepper of Bahia ( Brazil ) cannot write it down, because only the memory will make me sick again (...)
Regards and muitos beijos
