Hi Jody,

I got married in Bali in late March 2004.

At this stage the missus has not changed her surname on anything, but when I rang the Department of Foreign Affairs before leaving they confirmed that no paperwork was needed to be lodged in Australia to register the marriage. Their Smart Traveller website also confirms that http://www.smartraveller.gov.au/marriage_os.html

The certificates received from the minister/celebrant and government registar are all recongised in Australia and must be accepted by them.

I would be interested in hearing if that is not the case, as we will be starting to change things very soon.
