Didn't someone just post in their JBR (I think it was KiwiCarol) about swapping coins at the airport? Maybe thats how they do it.
My sister brought something from a shop selling them, and the owner asked her for some, she couldn't work it out and asked if she was buying something with them, and he said no, they're just for him!
