you "felt" safe. Feeling safe is just that, a feeling.
One person can feel safe in a situation whereby another will not.
I climbed Sydney harbour bridge last night and was very surprised by a few in the group who did not feel safe.
Everyone has different fears so the question can not logically be answered.
As I've mentioned before, everyone "felt" safe 5 minutes before the bombing.
