The social status of the people will have a lot to do with it and whether the couple have saved for a long time for an elaborate ceremony, which can last days. You may only be invited for parts of the festivity.

An elaborate written invitation is pretty likely. If not posted, it would probably be given to you at your hotel, in Bali.

Gift; Money in an envelope is very usual, unless the people are very rich, in which case you could ask somebody from the family what might be appropriate.Money often goes to pay for part of the ceremony or to help set up a separate household, if the lucky couple don't live with the Bride's people.

Dress; Be covered below the knees with trousers or Sarung. If wearing trousers, a Sarung to be tied around the waist. An Udeng, Balinese headdress for a man; for a woman, one of those large decorative hair-combs (cucuk konde) to be worn. Sandals advisable, as you may need to go barefoot, on the Bale.

Photos are welcome; just be sure your head is below that of the Priest at all times.

If kissing occurs, it will be the lightest of air-kisses on each of the bride's cheeks. No smooching you cheeky ole Bule and keep you tongue in cheek, yours that is!

Hope this helps.
