It really hurts their pride to just take a money handout without giving something back.
I help a couple of families up there and give them small jobs to do for it, such as going into Dempasar to find me things such as balinese flags or giftware etc and they really enjoy doing that.
Is he old enough to have a licence? If so you could hire him as a driver when you go and recommend him to friends etc.
