While it is possible that not everything will be perfect like a faulty tv screen or headset that applies to all airlines. Definitely go ahead as planned and take your backpacks as carry on as clothing is avialbale at every stall for casual stuff and a 30 min walk in any direction will yield nicer stuff.
Mataharis is well worth a look in fact I love it and check out their luggage prices. I use to go for the bali bags but like the wheely suitcases more these days. My friends bought some great luggage when we were there just recently and the prices were insane. Matahris were having a huge sale but the prices were good even before the discount.
I loved Santike while I was there but make sure you venture into Kuta and don't get stuck in that end. For that matter make a point of getting into Legian are. Taxi's are dirt cheap so use them.
