We had a similar instance at customs when we arrived, although it was change of shift, so I walked away with my customs declaration in hand!
On the way home I accidentally left our 'leatherman/pocket knife thingy' in my carry on hand luggage. They picked it up on the scan and took it off me. As I was boarding the aircraft to return home, they handed it back to me and said to not open 'tool' as Australia doesnt allow this item for travel. Lucky I do not have any terrorist traits!
Great to read that Bali has lots more tourists.
