We have been to Bali several times recently so just a couple of things to share that may be a little different.
1. Upon arrival in bali we waited for about an hour to get through VOA as 3 full planes arrived at the same time. No big deal as I was anticipating delays. However by the time we got to the baggage area all our gear was unloaded from the carousel and neatly arranged for collection. Went to go through customs and there was nobody on duty. Couldn't believe it. We had some food items to declare but I came home with my customs declaration still in my backpack.
2. On our return to Sydney my board bag didn't make it to the oversize baggage collection point along with at least 12 other people's gear from our flight (Australian Airlines) and lots of others from various other flights. I've never seen so many people making baggage claims. My gear was found and delivered to my door by courier late at night that same day. So the stuff-up was in Sydney not Denpasar.
3. The roadworks were horrendous, huge holes along the pathways on both sides of the road and piles of gravel just dumped in the middle of a lane to ensure maximum interference. OH&S inspectors would love it.
4. Great to see the crowds are back. We even had to change dinner plans some nights as favourite restaurants were full. Great for Bali.
5. Almost all the people we met were positive and good humoured. I used a little more Bahasa Indonesia than last time and had very positive responses. Try it for yourself next time.
6. Stayed a couple of night at a new small hotel in Ubud (about 3 km north in Junjangan). Rice padi all around, ducks, heron, frogs, fireflies, villagers going about their business ans great massage. Price very reasonable. A refreshingly different experience.
Overall prices seem to have stayed constant except for restaurants. I noticed our food budget didn't go quite as far trhis trip. (still great value anyway).
That'll do for now. Sampai jumpa
