I extend my deepest sympathies to you & your family at your great loss. You will have a rough road ahead of you for some time & I hope your memories & love of your baby will keep you going.

It may be the wrong time to bring this up but since Jarrah has mentioned this subject so will I also.

Unlike both of my children I never belonged to Scouts or Guides as a child so never had any formal 1st aid training. It wasn't until I was in 3rd year high school that I was ever given any 1st aid instruction & that was only 1 short session at a school camp & I never gave it a second thought.I didn't wake up to myself until I became a Mother.Shortly after my 1st child was born I attended a full 1st aid course & I can honestly say without any doubt it is THE best money I have ever spent.

I have used the skills I learnt on numerous occassions.I found even when my own children had major accidents the panicking Mum bit of me didn't automatically kick in a I didn't collapse in a heap.I immediately remembered what I had learnt & was able to assist. For example - In the middle of the night our darling son who was a toddler at the time, got out of bed to sneak food.He almost cut his finger off & still bears the scars. Before I did the 1st aid course I would have been frantic but because of what I learnt & was able to assist.
The Doctor's said he still has 5 working fingers (okay 4 & a thumb) on his hand, thanks to my immediate action.I managed to hold it together at home-even when half asleep & on the way to hospital but on the way home,my husband had to pull the car over because the shock of it all hit me & I lost my dinner from the night before!

Can we maybe take this as a reminder that it IS up to each & every one of us to look after each other & especially our loved ones. Please if any of you have never thought of the importance of learning a proper 1st aid course please seriously consider doing one ASAP.You don't just have to be a traveller to need to know how to save a life.So many of us have backyard pools.People die even in a fish pond or a bath. You could save your own child or grandchild's life.It could even be your wife or husband you save from choking or dying from being electocuted.

I'll get off soapbox mode now ( sorry but I'm just really passionate about this) but I'd like everyone to think how important this could be to YOU & Yours & how much difference it could mean to actually saving the life of someone you love.We can't always stand back & expect other people to look after us.

BTW- I truly hope there are no flames on this post as my intentions are good & the consquences of not knowing 1st aid can be deadly or crippling.Statistics prove this.Accidents happen so easily in your own home or backyard. Please give some serious consideration to what I have said.I know it has served as a reminder to me to update my 1st aid skills.
