You will be able to cash your cheques in the hotels and the teller will not rip you off. Their job is too valuable to them. All the same you should check the amount as mistakes can happen. Generally the exchange rate in he hotel will be a lot worse than you will get on the street but you may find it suits you to accept a lower rate for the comfort and security of doing your transaction in the hotel.

In regards to the moneychangers I must be very lucky. On each trip I have usually found a moneychanger who is honest and does not try to rip me off. This sometimes takes a two or three transactions but then I always return to that one regardless of his rate. There is usually very little difference anyway. On my last trip once the guy got to know me I didn't have to produce my passport or proof of purchase even though I was cashing travellers cheques.
