You are about to have the time of your life. You will enjoy the Dynasty. Very nice hotel on the beach with a great pool area. Drinks at the hotel are a little expensive. There will be kids at the hotel but not so many that they will bother you.
Kuta is about one kilometre away and you can walk or get a taxi. Because of the one way street system and heavy traffic it is sometimes better to walk. It is not a bad idea to get a cab to Legian and then bar hop your way back to Kuta along Jalan Legian.
There is plenty of nightlife. I am a bit past the discos but I believe they really get going about midnight. Try Peanuts, GOA2001, Hard Rock Cafe. There are plenty of restaurants and bars that have bands also.
You can hire a car or motorbike at in Bali and you do need an international drivers licence. Just make sure you dont have an accident or it will cost you a fortune. You can charter a bemo with a driver for a very reasonable cost and I recommend you do this and not take the risk of driving yourself. I havn't been there for a couple of years so I will leave it to someone else to let you know the current cost.
Plenty of great restaurants and very cheap. For seafood try Gosha in Jalan Melasti and dont miss the Jimbaran Bay seafood restaurants on the beach. Great atmosphere, great food and great price. Just down the road from the Dynasty is the Green Garden restaurant. One of our favourites, give it a try. They do a good breakfast and the pineapple juice is a fresh pinapple juiced in a blender. Fantastic and a good pick me up if you have a hangover.
The weather is hot and humid. You are an Englishman but dont go out in the midday sun. Better to be in the pool or a nice cool bar somewhere. There is usually an afternoon sea breeze which cools things down a little. I dont think it is the rainy season in October but even if it is it won't bother you. Tropical showers are usually short and sharp and it certainly doesnt get cold. Even if you get caught in the rain dont worry about it as you will soon dry off.
