I bought some pearls recently at Bima airport as I was flying from Maumere to Denpasar and the flight stopped there - about half the passengers (both Indoensians and foreigners) rushed over to the pearl counter and started buying pearls - I asked some expat workers about it and they said it was a really good place to buy pearls so I joined the crowd at the counter. The prices seemed very low to me - around $10AUS for a conventional string of white pearls and $1-2 for earrings with small white pearls - of course I bought some. Whether they are the real thing or not I don't know as I really don't know anything about pearls ....but in Australia plastic would cost more so I was not too worried. All sorts of colours and sizes are available.
