Dear all,
I am a newly wed foreign woman (the 0.001%) to a Balinese. Life has ups and downs, like for any other couple. Plus yes, there is the cultural barrier that i easily jumped over ! There are accelerated courses to learn and qualify for marrying a foreigner. Think about all those mixed couples. Maybe they have reinvented a culture of their own, with their special language, and vocabulary...
Practically, yes, marrying a Balinese man means devoting (bhakti) your life to his culture and life in the banjar.
The banjar is my life and I am part of the banjar.
I feel pround, useful and loved by my husband and my community.
Search in a dictionary for "karunia" and it would give you some insights about a few (yes, a few but each is unique and valuable) successful relationships of a mixed cultural nature.
Greetings from Ni Luh,
