There are plenty of places in Ubud. We wanted to check out Oka Wati's but decided US$20 was too much to pay. Brata3 was low end ~40-60,000 Rupiah, and Artini II had a nice pool for about 150,000R. We stayed at Gandra's for 35,000 R/night that included a nice breakfast. It only had fans and cold water, but it was nice and the people there were super nice. Ketut can help you out with almost anything you want to do. Their garden was beautiful too. We then went to Lovina area, and it was dead. We saw very few tourists there. We went snorkeling for US$4/person and had a great time. Make sure you check the equipment before you go out, because the guy that took us had alot of stuff, but many of the masks were in bad shape. We stayed at the Bali Taman in Lovina area for a whole US$15 for an fan and cold water room. It has a nice pool, and is right on the beach. The beach isn't "beautiful" as a tropical beach, but its nice. Their gardens are cool too. We took Singapore Air from the US to Bali and back at it was really nice.
