We went to a forest just outside Ubud. We wee told not to touch the monkeys but they grab onto your clothing or your legs if they think you are holding food. There were 3 boss monkeys and they looked mean. one grabbed the leg of a Japanese tourist and wouldn't let go. Her guide threw food around to try and intice the monkey away.
If you have really young children keep them close to you and get them to hold their hands out flat so the monkeys know they have no food.
You are expected to follow the guide you have back to their shop and buy something.
You have to go although i tis a bit scary.
