I suggest that you stay at Kuta or Legian. They have everything you are looking for, great beach, good restaurants, shops galore and a varied night life. Plenty of bars or discos for those few drinks you mention.
You didnt say what budget you are on but this area has the complete range of accommodation, from cheap losmen to 5 star hotels.
