I just flew roundtrip on JAL to Bali and you should talk to your travel agent because JAL provided me with a free hotel room at the airport Nikko for free each way. I too had an 8 hour layover on the way home but believe me, I was tired and was happy to have to room to take a 4 hour nap and a shower. I thought the service was pretty good. The hotel is nothing special, watch out for the food prices, I think I paid $28 US for 2 hamburgers but I was too tired to notice at the time. Oh, also, if you like you can check your luggage straight through so you won't have to lug it around. That's what I did. Anyway, hope this helped.
