Just returned from a 2 week trip to Bali. Visited Permuteran on the West, Ubud, Candidasa, Munduk and Sanur.
Of all these places - we wished that we had skipped Candidasa! Yes - the E. Coast of Bali is beautiful but the town of Candidasa itself is ugly. Not much of a beach to speak of ... uggh!
I would recommend staying near Lake Bratun or somewhere in that area. Visit Besikih (largest temple in Bali), Mount Agung, and other sights. Even staying in Tirta Gangga might be nice. It's the town with the Water temple that is surrounded by some of the nicest rice fields.
