sounds like a great introduction to Bali - you will see the island from different views.
As for going to Kintamani - yes the hawkers are bad there, but the sight of Mt Batur is worth it. One hint, at the end of the main road overlooking the lake (on the lake side of the road), there is a resturant with a great view of the mountain & the lake. I didn't eat there, but the coffee is good - but more to the point, there are stairs leading up to the resturant & half way up there is a viewing platform with great views (the photos of MtBatur on my webpage were taken from there). My driver took me straight there, and the hawkers only followed as far as the foot of the stairs so we could sit in peace and enjoy the view.
