will win in Bali, but not in the rest of Indonesia. Imagine there will be a lot of disgruntled young people when they end up with the Golkar party again. To me it's a totally different situation to May 98. In May it was a celebration that they'de got rid of Suharto and things would change for the better, but with massive cost of living increases, unemployment and more racial and religious problems it's hard to see any Indonesian being happy. There was so much hope in May and it has mounted to nothing. Friends I have living in Denpasar are burying their money in the backyard as they don't know what's going to happen with the elections and don't want their money in the banks. There seems to be so much uncertainty.
One thing for sure, I definately wouldn't go to Bali in June especially around Sanur and Denpasar. Matter of fact not that many places I'd travel to . Maybe a good time to consider a holiday at Nusa Dua behingd the safety of the security gates etc.
