On the contrary, I tipped the one of the hotel staff who has been extremely helpful, 160000 rupiah when i departed. That was his one month pay which i had found out earlier.
I was later pulled aside by another Balinese that I shoudln't have. It makes the young Balinese greedy and over time, their friendliness and helpfulness might not come from being themselves but the motivation for money.
Perhaps I might have put it across wrongly not to tip at all, but i guess my point is tip them, but tip them according to local standards, not the the standards of where you come from.
And Daniel if you're unhappy that tourist spent years of Balinese income on just airfare, maybe you might be better off working elsewhere. Come to Sweden. If you work here, you have to have meals here. Your one meal might just be years of Balinese income.
