Getting a female guide does sound like a wonderful idea and I'm sure they would show us a completely different side of Bali...But I have never found a female guide that has her own car to drive around in. I know that sounds very dark ages but it doesn't stand out over there. My husband and I have been to Bali 8 times in the past 10 years, we hired aguide a few times we went on other peoples reccomendations and we found it easy to place our complete trust in them within minutes. The people really are a completely different breed in Bali. Yes, there are those who try to con or trick you, but you can (normally) tell the genuine people from the others. We had female guides (young girls) for three seperate hikes on three different Indonesian islands, and we did find them more open and happy to talk about home life, religious beliefs, their upbringing, etc. Treat your guide like a friend you are visiting in a foriegn country, and they will treat you like a family member visiting them.
Enjoy your trip, as I'm sure you will. But let me warn you once you've been to Bali and Indonesia it's hard not to go again, and again, and again.........
