There are three important castes in Bali. The fist, the Brahmana, always uses Ida Bagus as a caste identifier in men's names and Ida Ayu in women's. The children are named in order of birth: Putu, Made, Nyoman and Ketut.

The next caste, the Satria, does not have number names for the children. Members of the Satria are recognisable by the use of the title Agung Gede in their names.

The Waisa caste uses Ida as a title before a man's name and Ni before a women's. The children's number names are Wayan, Made, Nyoman and Ketut.
