To prospective visitors, please don't panic, your human body is a strong organism. Now, think of the Mediterranean, that has been polluted for centuries. Even 20/30 years ago I swam off Minorca, Greece, Cyprus, Ischia and the sea bottom was DEAD. But the postcards still look nice now and people still swim in it like they do in the North Sea and probably still in the Bridgewater Canal. The seas round Bali look blue and appealing. If you see a brown cucumber shaped object floating past, just keep your mouth shut. All Sydneysiders know about that.
Seriously, there may be bad patches, but I swam at Kuta and it was the nicest part of being at Kuta apart from Poppies Restaurant. And at Sanur, now that had that Mediterranean feel about it, no fish!
If you would like to swim in clean water, just come to Perth. OOPs I just remembered we pump it three miles out untreated! Seriously, enjoy your swims but don't ingest the water unless you have to!
