When you give your credit card to someone, watch them - THEY SHOULD ONLY SWIPE IT ONCE and in front of you. If they swipe it twice, it could be that they have made a second unauthorized copy of the magnetic data on your cc which can then be used to produce a counterfeit card. Banks, apparently, are in the process of building in a SIM chip to defeat the fraudsters - but in the meantime I don't think people are liable for losses.
