My husband and I stayed at Le Meridien last November on our honeymoon. While the package deal included the fabulous "American style" breakfast buffet, every other item on the menu was expensive, which is what one would expect from a 4 star hotel. We took a cab or the shuttle to Kuta to eat -- it was the only way to survive. The rooms have an electric water kettle for making coffee and tea, but we converted ours to a spiffy hot plate to warm up take away food in a pinch. One night I just couldn't go to Kuta again, and ordered a turkey sandwich and a bintang from room service to the tune of about USD $16 -- only slightly less than what I would pay at a comparable hotel here in San Diego.

My Advice: Pork out on the buffet, then get snacks the rest of the day somewhere else. Smuggle in food and beer, to store in the in-room cooler (just take the other stuff out and put it beneath the TV console).
