Experiences with renting a villa?

I would like to know what your experiences were: would you do it again? what is considered a proper tip for staff? did you hired a cook? who went for the food shopping? how did you arrange with payment for alimentation? Any sugestions and other help would be grately appreciated especially about general behaviour with staff.
