Small bribes use to be quite common in Bali and in all of
Indonesia, it was considered a "thank you" or a way to
avoid dealing with the police. Now, since the Reformation
movement it is less common, in fact I have not seen it
on the streets from police or at customs.
If you give bribes you only encourgage corruption.
If you are asked for 'cigarette money' by the police
write down their name and tell them you're going to write
to PO Box 9000 in Jakarta. Do not participate in corruption!!
